З історії українського книгознавства (до 100-річчя Українського наукового інституту книгознавства)Рубрика: Історія бібліотечної справи і бібліотек Анотація: The purpose of this article is to remind readers about the institute by summarizing the results of its work and recognizing the accomplishments of the century-old Ukrainian book studies school. The methodological basis of the article combines principles of historicism, objectivity, and systemic. Scientific novelty. It was proved that themain topics developed by the Ukrainian Institute of Book Science were the study of Ukrainian book history (before that there was a lack of complex research on this topic); the study of the complex topic "Book-Reader", relocating the focus on the reader; the bibliographic description of Ukrainian editions of 1917–1921; the research of Ukrainian book art decoration. For eight years, the Institute published the journal "Bibliolohichni visti", which was popular not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders. This journal published articles by Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, and Czech bibliologists, as well as research by scientists from Lausanne and Paris. The document studies of Paul Otlet and the International Bibliographic Institute in Brussels were popularized. The extremely informative section "Chronika" constantly reported to the specialists the news on bibliology, libraries, publishing, and bibliography. Inaddition, during the first 8 years of its activity, the Institute conducted 66 publications; undertook the first Soviet Union sociological research devoted to libraries and reading; organized numerous book exhibitions; and participated in foreign exhibitions. The unique book studies scientific school was formed. The progressive development of book studies was brutally interrupted in 1931 when the book science itself, as well as the Ukrainian Institute of Book Scienceand its leading specialists, were recognized as bourgeois-nationalist, and fascist. Today’s accusations by Russia against Ukraine, in general, are very similar. Conclusion. In fact, there was nothing nationalistic or political in the research and work of the Institute. However, the severe criticism, which began after several meetings in late May-early June1931, led to the suspension of book studies in Ukraine, the actual destruction of this science, and further repression against outstanding bibliologists. The new stage of Ukrainian book science development began only in the late 1950-es.
