Updating and Consolidation of the Ecological Topic in the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine Rubricator

Abstract: Relevance of the research topic. Since the last third of the XX century, environmental protection has gradually become a global problem. In 1972, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) was developed to coordinate international cooperation in the field of environmental security. The United Nations conferences on Environment and Development (Stockholm, 1992; Rio de Janeiro, 1992), the World Summit on Sustainable Development (Johannesburg, 2002) in their final documents noted the urgency of creating a comprehensive system of environmental information. In Ukraine, the environmental situation is recognized as a crisis, so the problem of environmental protection is especially acute. Overcoming the crisis is impossible without the general awareness of the population about the state of the environment, education of ecological culture of each person. The article considers the issue of accessibility of ecological information to the people, in particular the environmental resources of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine (VNLU). Problem statement. The demand for environmental information, large flow of documents, complexity of their systematization and the ever-increasing demands of readers have necessitated the methodological development and practical implementation of the scientific reference apparatus, which will link all sections of the VNLU Rubricator related to environmental issues. For this purpose, in accordance with the content and structure of modern (applied) ecology and according to the model of the semantic classification network, an updated section entitled "B1 Ecology" is proposed as a single point of access to library resources on environmental issues. Practical significance. The reader will receive a search tool in thematically related sections and will be able to find all documents on environmental issues that match his search query.

Keywords: VNLU Rubricator, ecological information, modern ecology, applied ecology, semantic classification network.
