Solovianenko D. Academic libraries in the new sociotechnical environment: Part first. Academic library as publisherAbstract: The paper is devoted to an overview of key trends in academic libraries of late 20th – early 21st centuries. The first part of the research is concentrated on issues relating to the growth of academic librarianship crisis in 1980th – 1990th years and on the emergence of new paradigms in library science. The paradigm of development of academic libraries as scholarly publishers is discussed. The work presents results of the analysis of key library publishing initiatives (HighWire Press, LEME, MUSE etc). It is highlighted the role of SPARC coalition in establishing of the «new publishing model» of academic libraries. Also paper aims at understanding some technical and technological aspects of construction an academic e-publishing platforms architecture. The software package Open Journal Systems is described in details. Furthermore, it is studied main problems of the «library as publisher» conception.
