Abstract: Historical aspects of library statistics formation in territory of Ukraine which are closely connected with history of a library science and country statistics are analysed. Library statistics as the branch of scientifically-practical activities formed at post-reform period (second half Х1Х – beginning ХХ) and as a result interactions of experts in the field of a library science, national education and statistics. The creative contribution to domestic library and Bibliographical science well-known persorns who worked and in sphere statistics departments (S.Zhylkin, Ye.Medynsky, S.Siropolk, O.Fortunatov and others) is presented.
