The Role of Libraries in Supporting Research Data Management in Higher Education Institutions with a Focus on TanzaniaSection: Libraries in the digital environment Abstract: The purpose of the article is to explore effective strategies effective strategies for implementing research data management services within higher education institutions, emphasising the critical roles of libraries and their staff. Research methods. The research utilised closed-ended questions as the main instrument for data collection, and the analysis was carried out using Version 26.0 of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Scientific novelty. A cross-sectional quantitative survey was conducted to collect data from library personnel at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NMAIST) in Arusha, Tanzania. Conclusions. Results indicated that libraries and library staff must foster digital literacy skills to implement research data services successfully. Training, guidance, and support emerged as key strategies for effective implementation. The study also stressed the importance of involving stakeholders in creating research data management policies and guidelines. Notably, one significant challenge was a widespread lack of awareness and understanding of the strategies necessary to implement research data management services. Libraries can significantly contribute to effectively implementing research data management services, ultimately enhancing the research output and data integrity within higher education institutions. Keywords: Libraries, Research data management, Strategies, Research data management services, Higher education institutions.
