Tkachenko Ihor The questionnaire of the newspaper "Zasiv" a source for the portrait of the reader of the Ukrainian press in the beginning of the 20th centurySection: Bibliographic repertoire of periodical Abstract: The purpose of the article is to study examines the consideration of the role of the questionnaire of the peasant newspaper "Zasiv" in determining the typical portrait of the reader of the Ukrainian press, his needs in providing the printed words in his native language. Based on the research of M. Hekhter in "Literaturno-naukovyi visnyk" and "Rada", the memoires of Yu.Tyshchenko and the diary of Ye. Chykalenko the desire of publishers of Ukrainian periodicals for the people to provide a representative research in order to determine the typical needs of readers and subscribers of Ukrainian periodicals is shown. The data from this questionnaire which has not yet been sufficiently analyzed are an important source for determining the portrait of the reader of Ukrainian popular press of the early 20th century and the history of Ukrainian journalism on whose methodological approaches as well as on critical and partly problem finding methods this research is based. The scientific novelty of the study is in revealing the typical moods and thoughts of the readers of "Zasiv" which, as the analysis of the represented sources showed, were characteristic of the average Ukrainian reader of the early 20th century. Conclusions. It is established that the study of M. Hekhter "Ukrainian readcer about Ukrainian edition" made it possible to determine the target audience of the popular press and refuted the popular opinion at that time about the lack of proper ground for its further development. It is shown that the Ukrainian reader, whose characteristic portrait was determined by "Zasiv" questionnaire, in 1912 could not and did not want to subscribe the newspaper solely out of a sense of national duty, but sought to receive useful information in a vernacular language understandable for him. Keywords: Ukrainian printed word, questionnaire of the weekly "Zasiv", portrait of a reader of the Ukrainian press, folk newspaper. Author(s) citation:
