The Austrian Libraries Abroad Project

Section: Ukraine and Austria: science, education, and culture in the modern information space

Abstract: The purpose of the article is to explore the history of the Austrian Libraries Abroad network, analyse its development trends, reveal its role and place within Austria’s foreign cultural policy, and highlight the significance of the project in the context of scientific and cultural cooperation between the countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe. The research methods are based on systemic and structural approaches, including interdisciplinary. The scientific novelty. A comprehensive analysis of the Austrian Libraries Abroad project, starting with the history of its inception, studying the individual stages of its development, identifying the main tasks and goals, presenting the main actors and partners of the project, and clarifying the role in establishing the Austrian cultural and scientific presence in Central and South Eastern Europe. The conclusions emphasise that this project represents a united cultural and academic network beyond the borders of a single country and serves as an evidence base for intercultural dialogue and academic discourse, and is relevant and important in the context of Ukrainian-Austrian relations. The network, whose origins date back to the 1990s, has been successfully operating and developing in many European countries, and in recent years it has also covered Asian countries.
