The Austrian Library at V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine: the sociocultural aspect of its activity

Abstract: The purpose of the article is to explore the sociocultural aspect of the Austrian Library’s activities at V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine and to reveal its role in the context of Ukrainian-Austrian relationsas a center of cultural and academic exchange, the promotion of Austrian intellectual heritage, the strengthening of intercultural dialogue, and the development of international academic cooperation. The research methodology is based on general scientific methods (analysis, synthesis, generalization) and specific approaches (comparative and structural-component analysis), grounded in the principles of complexity, historicism, and scientific objectivity. The scientific novelty lies a conceptual understanding of sociocultural activity as an integral component of library and information work in the context of international cultural cooperation carried out by the Austrian Libraryat V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine. Conclusions. The analysis of the Austrian Library’s activities from its establishment in 1992 to the present confirms that the sociocultural component has been one of the key directions of the institution’s work. It has evolved in line with the objectives of the "Austrian Libraries Abroad" project and is grounded in the scientific and methodological foundations of V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine. The Austrian Library plays a significant role as an integrative platform for intercultural communication, contributing to the development of academic and cultural exchange between Ukraine and Austria. Its sociocultural activities are implemented through cultural and educational, scientific, and informational-communicative initiatives, including the organization of exhibitions, academic conferences, thematic discussions, book presentations, and other events. These activities have a substantial impact on strengthening Ukrainian-Austrian relations, promoting Austrian scientific and cultural heritage in Ukraine, and integrating Ukrainian intellectual thought into the academic and cultural space of Austria, thereby contributing to the advancement of international academic and library cooperation, the expansion of cultural dialogue, and the formation of sustainable interstate partnerships.
