Information resources on the history of Ukraine on the websites on the world’s leading libraries: research on the formation of sections of electronic catalogs

Abstract: The purpose of the study is analysis of the organization of information resources on the history of Ukraine and the presentation of the corresponding section on the websites of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine and the leading scientific libraries of the world for the implementation of a multifaceted thematic search. The research methodology is based on the use of general scientific and special research methods (generalization, systematic, classification, descriptive). Scientific novelty. The structure of the "History of Ukraine" section of the thematic navigator of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine and the process of its detailing with the obligatory indication in the descriptions of the headings of the corresponding indexes of the Universal Decimal Classification were studied. The formation of massifs of information on the history of Ukraine by well-known libraries of the world was considered, the capabilities of their information and library systems and the applied means of navigation and search were compared. The importance of specifying classification indexes and thematic headings in the bibliographic records of documents has been clarified, which makes it possible to limit the search to a certain thematic branch and manage it. Conclusions. The leading scientific libraries of the world, in particular, the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine, support scientific research and educational processes on the history of Ukraine, provide free access to a wide range of information sources, and popularize Ukrainian documentary scientific and cultural heritage. They provide effective use of huge arrays of accumulated information resources with the help of a rational organization of electronic catalogs, the possibility of using the library hierarchy in the search process, presenting on the sites all materials and additional information necessary for processing receipts and conducting an effective intellectual search of sources from the history of Ukraine.
