Abstract: The purpose of the article is to convey to the authorities that the academic and national branch library needs the support of the authorities in solving the issue of obtaining a separate room for the full performance of the delegated functions of the national scientific institution. Research methods. The research uses the principles of historicism, objectivity, systematicity, and comprehensiveness. The specified methodology made it possible to analyze the organization and functioning of the archival industry in Ukrainian society, the role of archives and their interaction with library institutions, and to draw appropriate conclusions. Scientific novelty. The legislative and regulatory acts that regulate the activity of the library remain only declarative and do not affect the situation that has developed in the library in relation to the necessary areas for further productive work on the performance of statutory functions. Conclusions. The article highlights historical aspects of the construction of the third largest agricultural library in the world, which stores 1.1 million copies of publications on agricultural and forestry topics from 59 countries in 32 languages, and its relocation from Kharkiv, where it operated during 1924–1970. The institution is a scientific, methodical, and coordination center for 137 branch libraries of the country and performs the functions of a branch depository. The article describes its significant role and place in the implementation of the state program for increasing the efficiency of information, library and scientific support of domestic agro-industrial production with a constant striving for perfection, given that rural agriculture is the most important branch of the national economy, and agricultural science is the foundation of agricultural production, which requires constant scientific and information support. Attention is focused on the fact that in order to create proper conditions for the full functioning of the National Scientific Agricultural Library of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences – the leading special library of Ukraine, which performs the functions, tasks and directions of an academic and national branch library and in accordance with European norms for 54 years, it needs state support in solving the issue of obtaining a separate premises for the full performance of the delegated functions of the national scientific institution. This is an urgent issue that cannot be solved on our own.
