Educational and social activities of Stepan Siropolko in emigration: according to publications from the funds of the V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine

Abstract: The purpose of the article is to publicize publications authored by S. Siropolko from the funds of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine, which reveal the scientific achievements of the scientist in the field of education, upbringing, pedagogy and social activities in emigration during 1920–1959. The research methodology is based on the use of objective and comparative analysis of selected publications from the funds of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine. The principle of historicism provided an in-depth consideration the subject of research, helped to determine the place and role of the personality of S. Siropolko in the development of Ukrainian education, pedagogical science, education and development of public organizations in the context of a specific historical time and emigration conditions. Thanks to the use of methods of analysis and synthesis, bibliographic and document studies, it was possible to analyze the content of individual editions of the specified topic, to find out their features, the correspondence of the books content to the chosen topic. The conclusions state that the books and publications of the emigration period of S. Siropolko, devoted to issues of education, are a significant contribution to the study of the history of Ukrainian culture, first of all education, upbringing, pedagogy, to the development of public activity of Ukrainians outside of Ukraine and in the modern state of Ukraine. When presenting the main material of the research, an analysis of selected publications was carried out, the scientific and public activity of S. Siropolko as one of the most active representatives of the Ukrainian emigration of the first half of the 20th century was considered. Specific theoretical and practical achievements of the scientist during the period of emigration in the declared areas of activity, in which the scientist appears as a historian of Ukrainian education, an educational and public figure, are given.
