“Bibliotechnyi Visnyk” (Library Bulletin) is a professional, peer-reviewed scholarly periodical (theoretical and applied) that addresses current issues in library and information activities, bibliography studies, book studies, and social communications within the library and information field. The journal “Bibliotechnyi Visnyk” (Library Bulletin) was founded in 1993 by V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine (VNLU).

The first issue of the journal was published to mark the 75th anniversary of NAS of Ukraine and VNLU. In the editorial board’s address to colleagues and readers published in that issue, it was noted, in particular, that “Bibliotechnyi Visnyk” (Library Bulletin), the first professional journal for library workers in Ukraine, aims to become the successor to “Bibliolohichni Visti” of the 1920s–1930s and to serve as a platform for library and book studies scholarship.

The thematic focus of the journal reflects the main directions and trends in the development of librarianship.

The journal publishes articles in specialty B13 “Library, Information and Archival Studies” (Cluster “Human Capital Development, Social Sciences and Journalism”), including research on library science topics such as: general issues of library science; libraries and society; library information technologies; the modern library in the electronic environment and within the system of social communications; research, methodological, and international activities of libraries and library associations; the operation of library networks in Ukraine; issues of improving cataloguing in research libraries; library and scientific information services; research and preservation of collections; the creation of the State Register of National Cultural Heritage; experience in forming library and archival collections; the library profession and education; library terminology; the history of librarianship and libraries; readership studies; libraries abroad; international book exchange, etc.

The journal’s scholarly publications also cover issues in bibliography studies, including national bibliography, bibliographic activities of libraries, and topics in biobibliography and biographical studies.

Considerable attention is also given to book studies, the history of the book, the study of printed and manuscript heritage, research into library collections, and the history of publishing, among other topics.

Many publications in “Bibliotechnyi Visnyk” (Library Bulletin) present research on issues common to library professionals and specialists in related fields, including studies of archival and library collections, preservation of cultural heritage collections, issues of state registration of documentary heritage (book and archival heritage of Ukraine), and source studies. The journal also publishes thematic issues.
