Library and Information Support for Business Development: the Experience of the British Library and Prospects for UkraineSection: Foreign llibrary experience Abstract: Relevance. The need for innovative development of the domestic library service actualizes the study of the relevant experience of foreign libraries. The article highlights the British Library’s experience in organizing aninnovative library service focused on supporting small and medium-sized businesses, considers the possibilities of adapting this experience to the realities of Ukraine. Purpose. The research is aimed at substantiating the information and communication potential of the library in the organization of business idea management environment, identifying effective approaches to organizing such an environment, identifying key trends in the development of business-oriented library service and outlining opportunities to adapt existing solutions to domestic realities. Methods. The results of the study were obtained by analyzing the official website and reports of the Business and Intellectual Property Centre of the British Library, processing of professional publications, and the use of a set of scientific methods, including systemicand structural-functional, the use of which led to the study of business-oriented British Library service as a system of services from information access to the creation of an open business community, the organizational support of whichis entrusted to a special unit within the structure of the British Library. Scientific novelty. It has been found that the comprehensive business-oriented library service of the British Library includes such services as the organization of space for communication, exchange of ideas; providing access to information resources and information useful for business development; conducting consultations on the use of information resources; organization of pieces of training and seminars on intellectual property and copyright, business development with the involvement of partners; financial support of business; organization of a business club focused on the formation of an open business community. Conclusions. Based on the analysis of the relevant experience of libraries of Ukraine, the relevance and possibility of organizing a business-oriented domestic library service under the conditions of providing library institutions with technical-technological, financial, personnel resources are substantiated, іt has been proved that the organization of the library’s innovative environment for business development support became possible with the establishment of a widenet work of interaction between public and private sectors, effective partnerships, involvement of public initiatives.
